Then we will continue to talk about the themes and characteristics of the "Pure Land Sect of Taoism". Why do I call "Pure Land Sect" instead of "Pure Land Sect"?Actually in the early days of China!Our Pure Land Buddhism is not called a sect but as Pure Land Buddhism. The name Pure Land Buddhism was first introduced from Japan. Then in the early years of the Republic of China, the name Jodo Buddhism appeared because of the influence of Japan.
When I wrote this theory, I used "Pure Land Sect" to establish the name, mainly because it is the intention to establish the name more faithfully according to the Pure Land teaching method, and it does not involve the sectarian perspective at all. "Dao stage" refers to the order and order to guide the Buddhist practitioners how to study.
The concept of our chanting of Buddhism is very simple. We all rely on "faith and willingness to do," and we firmly believe that we are eager to recite the Buddha and live in the blissful world.In Tiantai Sect, it is sentenced to Yuanjiao, and Tiantai Huayan Judgment is called Yuanjiao, Yuandun Dafa. Then this Yuandun Dafa is perfect fusion, Yuanxiu, and Yuanzheng, so generally speaking, it will not be associated with this second nature. Therefore, it seems that works in this area are rarely seen in the Buddhist world. That is to say, no one has summarized the pure land method in a subordinate manner.
Even if it is a proof of perfection, it does not necessarily need the summary of this stage, but the stage does not hinder the harmony, and the harmony does not hinder the stage. This is the state mentioned in the Huayan Sutra. I will make it a second stage. One sorting is for the convenience of fellow practitioners, especially beginner practitioners will have a lot of convenience in starting their studies, and even after we have studied for a period of time, we can compare our current realm.
In the last part of "Circulation", it is also particularly pointed out that after we chant the Buddha and confirm our faith in our wish to rebirth, how should we practice during the period before we die? How should we practice the path of Bodhisattva? This part is also for everyone. I made a specific introduction for everyone to study.

The Fa between the master and the apprentice, because of the process of such a small movement, the Fa can be taught right away with the initiation of the heart, but as ordinary people, we can’t see anything after watching it for a long time. So although Zen can be directed at people’s hearts and can be seen as a Buddha, not everyone can have it. Comprehend.

Then the Sixth Patriarch Huineng taught to him and pointed directly to the hearts of the people. How to refer to it directly, tell him "don't think about good, don't think about evil." "That" is the original face of the Lord. This sentence is very famous, but there are still many great virtues who have interpreted it wrongly. The solution is very mysterious. It's wonderful, people still can't understand after watching it for a long time.
In fact, how do you explain this sentence?It's very simple "don't think about good, don't think about evil." "That" is the true face of the Lord, it's "that". When you don't think about goodness and evil, what is "that"? Will you?The moment when you don’t think about good or evil is the moment when you have no thoughts. You don’t think about good law or evil. The moment that is pure and thoughtless is “that”, which one?I still can't find it, so this is what you need to know.
Many people misunderstood and interpreted him as "Which one is the original face of Ming Shangzuo", "Which one"?If you want to ask which one, you have to wonder which one it is.In fact, he is pointing directly at the human heart, that is, telling you directly. "That" means that if you can know it right now and feel that moment, that kind of silent state, there is no distinction between good and evil, no thoughts, "that" is it.If you realize it, "that" is what it is. Our Buddha nature is pure and untainted. In this Buddha nature, the state of "that" with no distinction, no attachment, no good, no evil, and no thoughts is "that". Everyone, go back. Experience it.
It’s really possible and it’s not difficult. It’s just that this kind of experience is deep and shallow, just like this is the earliest Zen way of picking up the phone. It’s actually very simple, but later people’s minds are more complicated, so they think at first. A lot. When you think about it a lot, you simply forget to pay attention to the moment you are pure. You can’t feel it and there is no way to calm down and grasp the moment, because your attention is focused on your mental consciousness, so Slowly such a simple sentence, such a clear guide to your true face, but everyone has no way to understand it.

If you can see the moment that the Sixth Patriarch speaks, then you will see the original face right now, but because we have no way to understand, so start looking, first look for the huatou, where is the huatou?The old master Shengyi said it very simple, because he was very clear, and it was very simple to say by a very clear person. He said that there is a sentence that has not appeared before we can't even think about it, such as: "Namo Amitabha" is called Huatou at the time before "Nan" is about to appear. For example, let me use two sentences, Nanmo Amitabha and Nanmo Amitabha. The first sentence of these two sentences is the gap between the Buddha and Nan. Talking.
So how to talk to the head of the story is to focus our willpower and focus on this place. I just talked about the gap between Buddha and Nan, so can we do it?Maybe we have found it now, knowing where the huatou is, and how to participate after finding it, that is, keep our consciousness in that place and don't run away, and then use that state to participate in the huatou again.
For example: "Dogs have no Buddha-nature", you must first be able to settle your mind and stay in that state, and then in that state, pay attention to the phrase that dogs have no Buddha-nature. We Can it be done?There is no way, because it ran away in the next second, and finally found the place of the huatou. Old monk Xuyun said that some people have been searching in the Zen gate for a lifetime and cannot find where the huatou is, and they can find it quickly. If you can understand it, then you know it right now. You go to the Buddha and recite the Buddha's name twice. Look for the gap in the middle, and there is a conversation.
But if you really find you, you can’t start cultivating, so it’s very difficult. Although Zen can directly tell you where the Buddha nature is right now, it’s the so-called "not thinking about good and not thinking about evil." That is the true face of the Lord. The Sixth Patriarch Master didn't mean to you, he told you "that" directly, but because we couldn't understand it, then there was no way to participate in the next interview.
So for us, it was originally achieved very quickly. In an instant, we can see the nature of the Buddha and see the Buddha nature, but it is still very difficult for us, because we can’t see it. People will show you where you are. "?Mist, the line of sight is not very good, this look is actually to be seen with the heart, not with the eyes, so the Blessed One smiles when the Blessed One is holding a flower and he is smiling when he sees the Blessed One holding a flower. Realize that realm.

So why is our method very simple? Because this method is actually very similar to the characteristics of Zen. It directly asks you to believe in the Buddha.If we believe in the realm right now, we have entered the realm. When we enter the realm, we do not see our own nature, but become one with Amitabha. Amitabha’s aspiration has been fulfilled, and the forty-eight vows have been fulfilled. Then we only need to believe that the whole body depends on the vow. Amitabha, then at the moment we are united with Amitabha, we are Amitabha, and Amitabha is us.
Although we haven’t achieved it, Amitabha has achieved it, so we can do it right now when we truly believe in our desires. It’s so fast! And it’s as fast as Zen Buddhism, but we don’t have to spend a long time. We don’t necessarily have that understanding as long as we are willing. As long as you are willing to make a wish and be willing to believe, it is enough to say that it is more superior than Zen Buddhism from this perspective.
It is true that our method is very noble. The Zen master who is thoroughly enlightened is also the ancestor of our Jingzong. He told us: "When we recite the Buddha, when we recite the Buddha, it is when we become a Buddha, that is when we become a Buddha." Just in our sentence. We have become a Buddha right now when we recite the name of Buddha. That's what it means, so how fast! We have entered the realm right now, and more perfect than this Zen Buddhism.
why?In Zen Buddhism, when you see sex, when you see sex, you know your mind and you become a saint. You are an Arahant. After you see sex, you have to practice three A Sangsang Tribulations before you can become a Buddha, become a Buddha, become a Buddha, and become a Buddha. To teach the Buddha there are still three great monks. He just saw it first, and he had to cultivate after enlightenment. What about us?We don't need it. We become a Buddha when we recite the Buddha. What kind of Buddha is this?Yuanjiao Buddhism is incredible, "when you become a Buddha, that is when you become a Buddha", so it is more surpassing Zen Buddhism.

It’s really hard to imagine this realm, it’s incredible, it’s all due to the blessings of Amitabha Buddha’s aspirations, but the difficulty has its own difficulties. The difficulty is that we can’t really believe in the real aspiration, even if the real aspiration arises. It is also very difficult to have a long-term perspective. It is very difficult to be able to truly be without doubt, without intermingling, and without interruption. The difficulty lies in this place.
How to overcome it?There is only one way, that is, even after we have a faith and wish, we will not be able to leave the teacher and fellow daoists until we die. As long as we can continue to help, then we will be able to smoothly until we die without turning back.Because in this process, we don’t need to practice Kungfu, and we don’t need other conditions. As long as we can believe in our wishes, we can wait for Amitabha to pick him up smoothly. This is something we chanting Buddhists should pay special attention to. .
So don't want to say: Oops!Anyway, I have already made a vow, and reciting the Buddha is very simple. I can chant everything by myself. I just need to believe in the vow and deepen the vow. I also rely on myself to recite the Buddha.It seems right to think this way, but it’s actually too naive, because we really want to be able to smoothly not regress until we die. The most important factor and the most important condition is to rely on teachers and good friends. Then we are most afraid of There is no such cause.
Well, if we have this wrong concept and don’t pay attention to this fate, it is very possible that the karma of our beings is incredible. In this process, until the process of death, this factor of regression is too great. There are too many, so if we know how to make good use of this aid, we will be like Master Hui Yi said, after your belief arose, until you die, even if you only recite one Buddha's name a day, you will definitely be able to Die.
What is the most important thing to be able to recite Buddha without interruption?Fate! If you rely on yourself, it’s easy to forget to recite the Buddha. Sometimes it’s possible to forget the Buddha's name for a few days, so this depends on the environment of the teacher and kind friend. If you forget to recite, others are reciting it. I will remind you that as long as someone reminds you that you think of chanting Buddha, your faith and wish will not retreat, then you will be able to die smoothly. This is a point that we must pay special attention to.

So the part of the Pure Land Method is that it is difficult to benefit others, and it is also difficult to bear directly. This realm is true, but we can’t imagine it. , There is no way to experience this state, so it’s hard to believe, it’s hard to bear it straight, admitting that we are doing Buddha when we recite the Buddha, but this is the truth, so we can usually try to experience it. Oops, I’m sorry I’m an ordinary karma! It is true that we are ordinary karma, that is from the perspective of our own cause and effect, but once we can take advantage of Amitabha’s aspiration, then we will not see this "I" right now, we This ordinary person is gone, we become the incarnation of Amitabha! Think of ourselves as the incarnation of Amitabha, you are a Buddha, you are welcome, and we ourselves have Buddha nature.So in fact, we can try to experience it in this way. In this process, especially when practicing the bodhisattva path and being altruistic, you will have a special sense of accomplishment and will be particularly positive.
That kind of mentality is easier to achieve true merits. You are a bodhisattva and a Buddha right now. With such a mentality and such an incarnation to practice the bodhisattva path, the feeling is different. The merits are great, and you will do it yourself. Very happy.But you shouldn’t go everywhere and tell people that "I am a Buddha". The truth is that there is nothing wrong with it, and there is indeed nothing wrong. Then we can try to understand and see it in the process of learning. , Don’t talk to others everywhere.
So the third characteristic, the third characteristic of this theory is "superior teaching.""Jiaoxia" refers to the eight sects in China. Among them, Weishizong, Tiantai, Huayan are all, as well as Madhyamaka. This is the study of the teachings, so it is called the teaching.Consciousness-only learning is the most difficult, and I think it is the most headache because it is called Buddhist psychology. In psychology, because the mind and thoughts are very subtle to study, it has a lot of nouns. Especially many.
It is said that it takes eight years to learn the basic names and the basic names of the only knowledge-only names, and it will take eight years to memorize them. Then after you have learned all these basic names, you have to study further. This is what we call the eight consciousnesses. Alaya consciousness is the eighth consciousness, mona consciousness seventh consciousness, and up to the first six consciousnesses, analyze the function of the eight consciousnesses, its activity status, that is to say, our heart-moving thoughts. Then this part belongs to the scope of the Vishi Sect. It is to explore the Buddha nature from this angle. Then at the end of the exploration, its theory is that "all dhammas are changed by consciousness", which emerges from the Alaya consciousness, then this Part of what you want to learn is not something that ordinary people can be able to sustain. Just like when we studied the Fa with the old monks before, we must learn these terms under the special teachings of these various sects, because the old monks often refer to these sects. Proper names and signs, if we want to be truly mastered, of course we have to check the meanings of these nouns ourselves, so in fact, we have referenced the names and signs under the teachings of various sects.
Compared with the Tiantai Sect and Huayan Sect of Consciousness-only School, its nature is different. It uses an inductive method to summarize the ten teachings of the Buddha from one generation to another. It is easy to summarize it like the outline. At a glance, it would be easier for me to respond.Weishi has been unfolding and unfolding, exploring it to the very subtle, but I feel that it will make our minds very complicated and think a lot.
Maybe if you don’t learn well, you may have some mental burdens, because if you think too much, it will become a bad habit. Of course, it depends on the individual, and it also depends on the roots.For me, it is easier to understand the teachings of Tiantai and Huayan, and there are relatively few burdens and side effects. It is simple and clear.
But I just talked about this summary of one generation of ten teachings, which of course shows how wide it teaches. The three Tibetans and twelve books taught in the forty-nine year of the Blessed One are all in it, so we have to learn the forty-nine years of teachings. Although he made a very clear summary and judgment, but you still have to master the meaning of the law in depth, so it will take many years. This is five years, ten years, and twenty years, and you can’t get away.

This is a practice of Zen enlightenment to understand the reality from emptiness, then these are not so simple, it takes a long time in terms of holding, and sometimes like if there are some old bodhisattvas and children, there is no way at all. Learning, so we say that the Pure Land Method, our book, the pure land method is better than taught, because we are simple and easy to hold and the three roots are universal.
What's more, under these teachings, we have eight Chinese sects, Zen, now the great virtue of Zen, like the old master Shengyi, knows that the current human nature is no longer able to participate in Zen, so he also calls these bhikunis for the permanent residents in this Lantau Island. , Especially the teachers and fathers, they all tell them to recite Buddhism. He would not say that we are here as the dojo of Zen. Everyone must participate in Zen meditation. If you have broken your head, you still have to participate. It depends entirely on the root nature of sentient beings.
The Huayan school and Tiantai school, including the law school, are almost at the same time practicing Buddhism. In other words, no matter what sect you learn, you still have to go back to the Buddhism to achieve complete success.Well, if we started from this school of Buddhism to specialize in meditation, the old monk said that we will achieve it in three years. If you work hard on your own, even if you work hard on your own, you can achieve it for at most three years.
We just talked about knowledge-only. You just need to lay the foundation, but you have not yet begun to study this principle. You have to prepare for the principle of justice for eight years if you are the name and form. Therefore, it is said that the difficulty of learning and the speed of achievement Of course, we are superbly taught, especially when we study Buddhism.

This other sect, the eight sects in China, in addition to the practice of Buddhism, all sects must follow the order of the three disciplines of precept, concentration and wisdom. Let’s take a look at it. It’s very difficult to keep the precepts even the five precepts. Therefore, if we have to learn the precepts and concentration on our own, then other denominations don’t have our share. So we do compare and analyze in this detail. Our method is indeed It is better than other sects. Then some people have been reciting the Buddha for a long time, and they also know that it is really simple, so why do we still have no way of benefiting after reading for a long time?
I believe this is also the doubt of many people. The real key reason is that we have not grasped the pure practice of our Pure Land Method by cause and condition. We have introduced this part of the essence of the Pure Land Three Sutras, and the magic weapons that have been circulated before have been introduced to you. In the past, We learn the Pure Land Method, mostly based on the teachings of the patriarchs of other sects, and Tiantai Huayan only knows the methods of recitation of Buddhism taught by the patriarchs of these other sects.
Then, of course, what they teach is based on the concept of their own discipline, that is, precept, concentration and wisdom. They must practice Kungfu as well as meditation, so the name of chanting Buddha is also used as meditation practice. The method is to practise the samādhi of the Buddha, and not to have one thought. This is all meditation!Using this Buddha name as the goal of meditation practice, and finally after deep meditation, after the so-called samādhi of Buddhism is obtained, it can inspire our Prajna wisdom.
This concept is the first stage of the three studies of "precept, concentration and wisdom". Of course it is very difficult. We just talked about the other denominations according to the stage of "precept, concentration and wisdom."There is no way to be sure, so we are practicing Buddhism. I also feel that this is indeed the case. There is endless hope every day, and I don't feel tired at all, and the days still feel full of fun.
But my experience is different from others. I did not study Buddhism because of sudden shocks. Some people are divorced or suffering, some are abandoned, some are career failures, and some People are always stimulating, and then they have no choice but to seek the support of religious belief. Many people are like this, but I am not.
But it is also a kind of accumulation of suffering. It is also suffering. I feel suffering. Therefore, when I encounter the Dharma, I will make a wish to live in the blissful world within ten minutes. There is no need for persuasion from others. This has an antecedent, except Extending beyond this reason for the past life, as far as this life is concerned, from the childhood to the total suffering, this, ah, it's a long story.
Let me talk about this when I was young. When I was young, because I used to be in my twenties. There was a period of time when I was in my twenties, and I had a very enjoyable life. I've seen the world, I went to stay in a five-star hotel, travel abroad, abalone, shark fin, alas!Amitabha, I have eaten all of them, and later I also cooperated with my friends to open a restaurant, a very high-end restaurant, in Tianmu, Taipei.
The area of Tianmu is all foreigners. The general manager's foreign company is sent to work in the villa area in Taiwan, or the high-level residential area where some officials live. In the area of Tianmu, Taipei, there is a small room. The ping is not big, but it is a very high-class restaurant, a western restaurant. I used to have a big meal that day, because I invited a Frenchman at the bar, then a Filipino singer, and then the chef is a Cantonese. But nine out of ten people still secretly make girlfriends. This is a phenomenon that we often see in our lives. People's hearts are impermanent, and again and again, you will feel this impermanence in your heart before you know it. , Is to appear around us at any time, including ourselves and our hearts, you can be sure that you can love someone deeply in your life, do you not change your mind?I'm afraid it's difficult. As long as one person changes his heart, the other person must be very painful, so impermanence will also cause pain.

When I went back, I was beaten up because my family members were also worried. I was beaten badly, not because I was abused. I felt wronged because of being disciplined. At the age of ten, I felt that the world was very miserable and I felt wronged. Well, so I ran away from home early the next morning. I didn’t bring anything and didn’t dare to find friends, so I hid in... our house is a temple next door. I hid behind the temple and hid in a straw pile for a day. .
When I got hungry in the evening, I heard the announcement from the temple: "Eh! So-and-so! Your family asked you to go home for dinner!", I went back quickly, and the curtain ended. No one knew that I ran away from home, but at that time When I was young, I already felt that I couldn’t stay at home. Generally, "home" is the port we rely on, right? The only place I can rely on is that I ran away from home. The children felt that the home was unreliable and wanted to escape. That kind of suffering, so this suffering is felt very deeply by yourself from a small moment.
So let’s talk about the "emptiness". We just talked about the part of "suffering, emptiness, impermanence, and non-self." This part of emptiness is more difficult for ordinary people to understand in life. Here we will also briefly talk about it, if we say We truly understand emptiness. The Buddha often mentioned in the Prajna Sutra and Prajna sutras that "all dharmas are empty." All dharma is empty after all. We have to experience this phenomenon by ourselves in our lives. It is not easy.
For example, all dharmas are empty, and all dharmas include people, things, and things, all of which are empty. That is obviously there. We can see it so clearly with our eyes. How can it be empty?Even if I tell you nothing, you won’t realize it. This part is very difficult, but if we can really appreciate this part, then you will be able to completely let go of it. The so-called attachment, our attachment is because we think we are talented. You will be clinging, if it is something empty, how can you cling to it.
In the Prajna classics, the "Heart Sutra" that we are generally familiar with, there is a paragraph in the Heart Sutra that says: "Lace is emptiness, emptiness is form, form is not also empty, emptiness is not also form, perception and consciousness are also the same." The physical form is emptiness, and the physical form is the "all phenomena" that we see, which is called form. The Buddha told us that all phenomena are emptiness.

The sixth ancestor Hui Neng pointed out that the present moment of "not thinking about good and not thinking about evil", "that" is our true face, which is originally empty, and there is no originally. Then why we see that there is because there are some causes and conditions that come together A temporary phenomenon, because it is only temporary, so the Buddhist scriptures have a noun called "wonderful existence", it is there, but it is "being" plus a "wonderfulness" because it is not really there, it is temporarily existing as if There is, so it is called "wonderful existence", "vacuum wonderful existence". It is said that existence is not true, so it is said that there is wonderful existence, then what is true, emptiness is real, "vacuum wonderful existence.
How do we experience emptiness?For example, that Buddha statue is empty in its physical nature. If we know that it is empty in physical nature, then we can see the nature and understand the mind. For example, if we see this Buddha image, we see that the Buddha image has an aspect, then how should we go? To appreciate its emptiness, because emptiness is invisible and formless, how can we experience this emptiness? When we experience it, we will understand the mind, and we will see that emptiness is called the clear mind, the clear mind that understands the nature of the mind. .
How to experience this emptiness, this Buddha statue, here is that "color is emptiness, emptiness is color" and "emptiness" is one with "color". Therefore, if we want to experience emptiness, we must experience it from this color, and color is one. Image, where is that emptiness?In this image, how do we experience it? It's this material. Does the Buddha image have an image? Only if there is an image, there will be a Buddha image there.
Then this Buddha statue must have a physical nature and a emptiness in it, just like we have a person, but we have a soul, and the soul can’t see it, but we know there is, if not, it’s a corpse, and the divine consciousness is gone. Only the corpse is left, so this is the principle that "formity is emptiness." Form and emptiness are one body, and there is emptiness in every substance.

The gathering of various causes and conditions is called "seeing nature". From the aspect to see the body nature, this emptiness, this false existence, and the wonderful existence, that is, to see this truth and reality, this aspect is completely false. It's just that various causes and conditions are temporarily formed and formed by gathering. From the perspective of phase, if you come to see sex, this is called seeing sex. Therefore, seeing the sex with the mind is actually seeing through. There is no difference in emptiness. From this "being" To see this emptiness.
We see from the world of phenomena that everything is false and empty, and emptiness is the real state, and all dharma has no self-nature.If we can experience this real phenomenon, we accept it, and we experience it, then we are the people with a clear mind. For example, our bodies are also combined with the four elements to form "earth, water, fire, and wind." Then when these materials and these conditions are separated, they are gone. Wherever our people have gone, a person's life span is only short. In one hundred years, there are still people who live to be more than two hundred years old. At most, this is the case. Then after this period of time, the four major separations are gone, and there is no more. He returns to his original state of emptiness, nothingness, nothingness. This is the truth.

People who really see through, no one doesn’t want to die right away, and they must first send their loved ones’ children first, so that’s right. If you can’t generate this kind of cognition, it’s not self-deception, but it’s a kind of cognition from the bottom of your heart. You didn’t really see through, "Suffering, emptiness, impermanence, and no-self." You didn’t really feel deeply about these four types. You just need to feel a little bit about these four types. As Mrs. Vettich showed, it’s the deep feeling of suffering. .
Because she suffered a family change, this son wanted to kill his father and kill his mother. It was very painful to suffer from such a family change. The pain was so painful that she didn't want to stay for a moment. Then this kind of suffering is indeed everywhere in this world. It’s just whether you feel it, so we can comprehend every day from these four perspectives in our lives, helping us to really see through, to really let go, let go of the external matter, and even our various attachments to this body, We must really let go.
So what will happen to people who really let go. If you can become a monk, you will become a monk. You really don't want to be a monk. If you become a monk, you will change your status. You have endless hopes in the future.Because the world is fake, then play supernatural powers. If you want to play, of course you have to play a better role. You won't go to be a beggar, hey!Some people are just like that, the great virtue of Zen is not a beggar either.
After Lay Pang Yun was enlightened, all of his family’s property was thrown into the sea, because he was a manifestation of the great virtues of Zen, anyway, everything is empty, don’t even do good things, and then how to live, weave straw shoes to live, This is a manifestation of them. When they see emptiness, they won't be attached anymore, and can let go of everything immediately. Therefore, if we haven't seen it through, we must step up from these four aspects to come up with thinking and contemplation every day.
