Good evening everyone, Amitabha!
Tonight, we will continue to study "The Essentials of Master Yinguang's Manchuria". The next thing to learn is the general outline of Master Yinguang's lifelong teachings. The next four sentences: "True life and death, develop Bodhicitta, and hold the name of Buddha with deep faith. These four sentences are about the way the master teaches us to be reborn in the Pure Land.
After this period of study, we will continue to introduce yoga and worship Buddha, which is a very important part of our pure land practice.If we have been able to develop the method and confidence in the rebirth, then we will continue to study the practice of yoga-the method of worshiping the Buddha, we will feel that it is particularly easy to enter the situation. When we worship the Buddha, we will feel that it can be very easy. Communicating with Amitabha, we enjoy worshiping Buddha very much, and no longer feel that practicing Kungfu is very hard.
So Master Yinguang has a lot of weight in his teachings, so this time we have to learn...We have summarized the eight sentences in the master's teachings as the general program of teaching.In the past, we all thought that Master Yinguang taught us the conditions for rebirth in the Pure Land. Many people would think that the human and heavenly cause and effect must be achieved to a considerable degree before reciting the Buddha in order to be reborn.I don’t know if fellow practitioners have such a feeling? But I personally have this kind of misunderstanding. When we look at the eight sentences he learned this time and the general outline of his teaching, it’s easy to think that all eight sentences must be done. It’s actually a misunderstanding that I have the opportunity to come into contact with the teachings of Master Shandao, the pure land thoughts taught by our second ancestor of Jingzong, and I have the confidence to rebirth and truly master the key methods of pure land rebirth. Looking back at the teachings of Master Yinguang, they are actually exactly the same.Because Master Yinguang praised Master Shandao many times in the Wenchao, and called him a monk, and the monk is a pro-teacher.Then I was surprised when I saw him, why call him a monk? And also teach us to take the words of Master Shandao as what Amitabha himself said.Later, I studied Wenchao carefully and studied the pure land thought of Master Yinguang. It turned out to be exactly the same and inherited; Master Yinguang’s pure land thought was inherited from Master Shandao.
Today, I have selected a few paragraphs. The teachings in the notes can be very clear when we study together. First of all, the master reminds us if we are willing to promote the pure land, what should we strengthen the explanation? There is a passage for us. Say it first: "When you want to end the Dharma, if you want to promote the pure land, you should pay attention to the power of the Buddha, self-strength, and the size of the difficulty. You should also show the three roots of the universal, the benefit and the dullness. The reason is that you don’t want to persuade others. Life is slanderous."
This discourse is in the "Sequel to the Book of the Lay of Wei Meisun", the master Yinguang often communicated with the layman when he was in retreat, and used correspondence to answer the layman's questions.So this passage is what he told us, if we want to promote the Pure Land, how to promote it, it is easier for others to get benefits and grasp the key points.

(XNUMX) Grasp the characteristics of the Pure Land Special Method
Master Yinguang taught us that we need to clarify the difference between Buddhism and self-reliance, which is difficult and easy, in detail.Why do we need to make it clear? Only by making it clear can we truly grasp the characteristics of the Pure Land Special Method, which is XNUMX% relying on the power of Buddha.And it is very simple, just like the easy way taught by Nagarjuna Bodhisattva, who live in the eight sects, it is really very easy.Compared with other practices, it depends on self-reliance, which is difficult and very difficult.Then if we make it clear from this aspect, we will not be confused with self-reliance practice, and the key to truly mastering the pure land of rebirth is to rely XNUMX% on the power of Buddha!
At the same time, the master also teaches us to learn about the "three-gen-puquila, the reason why the bluntness and bluntness are fully harvested." Why is this method capable of three-general-puquila? Old bodhisattvas, children, and even animals...he would not listen to the scriptures! But as long as the opportunity to hear the name of Amitabha Even if he can make a wish and believe it, some animals don’t even know how to believe it? But as long as it has the opportunity to listen to the famous name, because the name also contains the element of "faithful wish", although he does not understand it, it does. This kind of merit is in it, so all can die.
Because of this method, the conditions for rebirth are too simple, and everyone can regenerate into Buddhas equally, which is very difficult to believe. Therefore, the master also taught us that if we want to persuade others to study and study Buddhism, we must also talk about this aspect. Clearly, why? Anyone can regenerate into a Buddha, the key is to rely on the power of Buddha! Amitabha's forty-eight wishes to accomplish all the merits of rebirth and even after rebirth, he has already cultivated for us, so of course it is very simple , Anyone can go as long as they want.If there is no Amitabha Buddha to help us cultivate the various merits of this Buddhahood, then how can anyone be able to become a Buddha at once? There must be a cause to have an effect! This "cause" Amitabha did it for us.
If from our point of view, we can believe and make aspirations as the cause, then Amitabha is a strong predestined fate, and the result is our enjoyment.That part of the master reminds us that on the one hand, the Buddha power and self-reliance are clearly stated, so that everyone can easily grasp the key points; on the other hand, the principle that the three roots are universally accepted, and the pros and cons are all received, also explain that everyone will not slander.Because if you don’t believe it, you will slander, so some fellow practitioners have always emphasized the "Buddha power" when I talked to you about the teachings of this Master Shandao in the past. It is good to master the three grains of the past life.The problem is that if this place is not clearly stated, then we will feel...Yes! Believe it and do it.But, what do you want to believe? I know that it is to believe in the three resources, but what do you want to believe? The direction is not very clear...In other words, the heart is still unstable, and the faith in the rebirth cannot be determined, so it must be Speaking clearly in this place, we can feel at ease right now, and only then can we complete the matter of rebirth, and we cannot be ambiguous.Ambiguous means that you have talked...you talked...but if you didn't make it clear, you still won't benefit from it, so this place is the key, and Master Yinguang also reminded us.
Well, if we practice the Pure Land Method and cannot truly realize that we truly believe in death, it is completely dependent on the power of Buddha...Then if we think that we need to rely on the power of self and Buddha, that is, the two powers of self, then we still have no confidence. Don't say that it is completely self-reliant to practice dedication, it is impossible to rely on self-reliance, why?

(XNUMX) Establish confidence in the rebirth, don't have a fluke heart
Because we only need to make a little mistake here, you see... There are so many wrongdoers and creditors, and now the karma is so heavy. Even if XNUMX% rely on the power of Buddha, there is still XNUMX% who think that they need to rely on self-reliance. Not insured.If you don’t have insurance, in other words, you don’t have confidence. If you don’t have confidence, then it’s really dangerous. Don’t... Don’t have a chance!
So why do we have to build confidence as soon as possible? Because if we don't really build confidence, then it is very likely that we will not be able to die. Don't think that it will be fine for everyone to recite the Buddha every day. The key is to believe in wish! The key to the condition of death is to believe in wish.So if we truly believe it, we can truly feel at ease.If not, can't you believe it completely? We know that we also have fellow practitioners here in Muar, and they are also very diligent in chanting! The fellow practitioners here in the past also worked hard to protect them, but they didn't die.The key to her not dying is that she has no confidence and thinks she has to rely on her own effort. Then she is serious enough... Everyone knows that she is very serious about Buddhism! But it's useless, why? Still, before you die, no matter how you recite the Buddha in this life, before you die...The karma of the innocent debtor is terrible than we can imagine! There is no saying that we usually recite the Buddha, and then we will be able to resist it. ? So when I am dying, I must be more flustered and less confident. If I don't have confidence, I can't die.
So if this place is not figured out, it will be very dangerous...without a fluke, nine out of ten people will not be able to die.So why do we have to emphasize that we must truly grasp the direction and rely on the Buddha in a hundred directions.When we understand that the matter of rebirth is XNUMX% dependent on the power of Buddha, we have to get closer to Amitabha every day, to understand him more and more, and to understand him more and more, our faith will continue to deepen, that Fa Xi will continue to grow every day.
Next, let’s cite a few paragraphs about Master Yinguang’s teachings, which focus on the power of the Buddha: “All the teachings of the Tathagata generation teaches that all living beings can practice precepts, concentration, wisdom, and break greed, anger, and delusion. Amitabha Buddha's great compassion and aspiration, if you have true faith and aspirations, sincere and sincere, recite the name of the Buddha, and seek survival in the West, no matter the roots are dull or the thickness of the temptation, you can be drawn to the west by the Buddha's mercy at the end of life. "This is what was said in the "Three Series of Wenchao".Look! The whole battle is based on the great compassion of Amitabha Buddha. It is clear enough! "The whole battle" is all dependent on the great compassion and aspiration of Amitabha.
Let's look at the next paragraph: "Tathagata said, all teachings are endless, and life and death are inevitable. Only the pure land, dedicated to the power of Buddha, is as childish as a child and nurtured by his mother. As if you are living in the sea, you must ride a boat and go straight. On the other side, feel calm physically and mentally.” This is what is said in the "Zeng Guang Part XNUMX".You see, he specializes in the power of Buddha! And he has another analogy: Just like a child, a child is one or two years old, he must be completely nurtured by his mother, one or two years old, even younger than the baby, he has no one at all. The strength to take care of oneself is XNUMX% dependent on mother.
There is another analogy: It's like we want to cross the sea, the sea is so vast, we want to swim, we will drown immediately, we must take a boat! Then when you get on the boat, do all of you rely on this boat? Strength, take you to the other shore? Or do you row with one foot outside, and sit on the boat with one foot on the boat? It’s impossible... you get on the boat, and you must take the boat if you want to cross the sea. That means relying on it all The power of this ship, the great wish ship of Amitabha.

(XNUMX) Master Yinguang's so-called two powers
Look at another paragraph: "All methods rely on self-reliance; only the pure land depends on the power of Buddha." This is clear enough in the "Zeng Guang Part XNUMX"! There are other three paragraphs, of course, I will give it to everyone later. Speak clearly from the other side.Some people are a little bit confused. Let me add this point clearly. The theory of our Pure Land Method can be said to have covered almost everything that should be said. In the future, fellow practitioners only need to repeat our discs and learn more.
Look at the master’s instruction again: “It’s like taking a steamer to cross the sea, but you can get to the other shore if you’re willing to get on the ship; it’s the power of the ship, not your own ability. Believing in the Buddha and surviving is the same in the West, it’s completely the power of Buddha. It’s not one’s own power.” You see, it’s all Buddha power. It’s clear enough! We’ll make a comparison later, because... Why are there some fellow practitioners who are a little confused here? Because Master Yinguang is writing It was indeed mentioned in the notes. Sometimes he said that he wanted to die by himself, so everyone was confused.
But in terms of this ratio, if you talk about the power of Buddha, it is probably more than XNUMX%, or even higher; if it is less than XNUMX%, or even lower, it will talk about two powers of oneself.So it's no wonder that some students get confused, so let's give you a clear explanation today. What does Master Yinguang's so-called self-management mean? It's different from what we imagined!
Let’s look at another discourse: “There are two different ways to practice: If you use your own strength to practice precepts, concentration, wisdom, and perceive the truth, the one who has passed away from life and death is called "Tongtu Dhamma." If you have true faith, you are willing to hold the name of the Buddha, hoping to take the Buddha’s name. Those who rebirth in the West by Tzu Li are called "special methods." The path is all self-reliance, especially self-reliance and buddhism." This is in the "Zengguang Part XNUMX".You see... He said in this passage: "Buddha power is self-reliant and Buddha power is both." This is really confusing, so here I want to make this paragraph clear to everyone, in fact, we... The World Lord told us, we Listening to the Fa should be based on the meaning and not the language, and you should truly understand what he means by saying this, rather than clinging to the words.
We can understand this section of Master Yinguang’s self-reliance and Buddha-power from three aspects, because different foundations, different seasons, and fate have different convenient ways of saying.Speaking of self-reliance and Buddha-power is the self-reliance at this time, it is the mental power of the person who can make aspirations and believe in the Buddha.He is willing to initiate this belief, not merit, so understand?
This question, when I was a beginner, I thought to myself whether it is relying on the power of Buddha or... If we can make a wish, then there should be my power too! Even some people think that I can judge If you are evil and cultivate good, I can recite the Buddha, recite the samādhi, and then go back, so I also have my strength, it is easy to imagine this way, and my previous imagination is also like this.
But these are not self-reliance. The self-reliance in our concept... The self-reliance in our concept depends on our merit.Then we have said before that we still have greed, anger, ignorance and ignorance until we die! We bring karma to rebirth! It's not pure yet! Then the deceased Buddha country must be pure and pure in order to be the merit of returning to the dreaming Buddha country. .So we really have no merit at all.
So what about the self-reliance of the master here? It is about... What he means is: We can generate this kind of mental energy of faith and wish, and we are willing to make our minds. From our side, it is a convenient way to say.

(XNUMX) The desire to return to the heart is the merit of wishing to regenerate mental strength, not self-reliance
It can also be said that this is both Buddha power and self-reliance, because if we don't make a wish, we can't do it, and we won't be able to die.That's why it was said at this time that it was rebirth... The special method is a combination of self-reliance and Buddha-power.So please make no mistake. The "self-reliance" mentioned by the master in this paragraph does not mean relying on our merits, but that we are willing to make aspirations and believe in the Buddha. This means that this right calls it self-reliance.This self-reliance is the same as the Buddha-power. The Buddha is the power of consummation. Our self-power is different from the Buddha’s consummation power. We don’t have any merit. We can only make aspirations and accept the power of Amitabha’s merits.
So if... So this passage, many people will misunderstand this... Then it was also at the time, there are often these traps in this text, so many people... Even some people don’t necessarily misunderstand it! That’s because we are learning At that time, it is especially necessary to grasp this part of the full strength of the Buddha, and then some practitioners will be nervous when they see it, oh... Then why do you say that here? They will be particularly worried, and we need to explain it in particular.On the other hand, if you talk about our other deeds of good deeds, for example, if you want to cultivate the three blessings of the clean karma, practice meditation, and practice other tantric practices, then deduct the merits of your own practice or deeds of good deeds. In this way, it is convenient to regard it as self-reliance.
It’s our side that is willing to take the dedication back and forth, but in the final analysis it is still mental strength, but we are willing to go back, so it’s not merit! Why? Because we even...it’s often mentioned in this sutra, even if you have cultivated very well. Deep meditation, if you don't believe in your wishes, don't rely on the power of Buddha, you can't be reborn, so that's not your own merit.
So in the end... This self-reliance means that we can make aspirations, our heart, the strength of sentient beings, we are willing to accept Amitabha’s salvation, and we are willing to unite with him to accept his salvation, this Because of this motivation, we must recognize clearly that the self-reliance mentioned by Master Yinguang here does not refer to the merits of our personal practice. If this is the case, it will be very troublesome.
We just said that even if it is XNUMX% that we need to be self-reliant is our merit, it is also very dangerous, and it is absolutely impossible to be universal, because most people...almost have no confidence in everyone or themselves. You can't die without confidence.So even if we rely a little on self-reliance, we can’t really... this method is impossible... to truly achieve the three general quilts, then it is contrary to the characteristics of the Pure Land Method! It doesn’t make sense! So it is really XNUMX% relying on Buddha power , No one has to doubt.Master Yinguang himself also explained, he said: "This is the power of Buddha, and it is also self-reliant. It is said that believing to be famous is that self-reliance can be touched by the Buddha. Vows to receive and receive mercy, and Buddha power can respond to me. Sensing Dao Jiao, so it's the same."
You can see what he said very clearly. He was explaining what it meant by ``this is the power of Buddha, and self-reliance''. Later, he explained ``faith is willing to hold a name, it is self-reliance'', and ``faith is willing to hold a name'' he did not say yes. The virtue of our pure heart, he is explaining what self-reliance is, that is, believing and holding a name is self-reliance, because we believe and wish... As long as we believe and wish to hold a name, then we can be touched by the Buddha... We can sense the Buddha and follow his aspiration. If you feel Dao Jiao, then the Buddha will come to catch you.This is Master Yinguang’s own explanation, and it is also very clear.So in the future, you don’t have to argue and doubt whether it is the second force or pure other power? It is completely dependent on other power, relying on Buddha power!

(XNUMX) The Pure Land Method relies entirely on the power of the Buddha, if you have faith and aspirations, you will be reborn
The master also said: ``The Pure Land Method, relying on the strength of the Buddha's vows to receive, and the sincerity of one's faith and willingness to recite the Buddha, regardless of enlightenment or not, even those who have not yet determined their troubles, can rely on the Buddha's compassion, that is, in the present life. , Reborn in the West." This is in the "Part XNUMX of the sequel."
You can read this paragraph very clearly: "Rely on the power of the Buddha's vows to absorb the power" Amitabha's aspiration, and then I believe in the sincerity of the Buddha, sincerity... Sincerity, the "Guan Sutra" says: "Sincere, deep heart 、Returning to the heart of vows" Sincere heart-our sincere heart of vows, does not say our pure heart merits, chanting Buddhism and Samadhi, no! It is very clear, are there any doubts? It is definitely not from another force. Make no mistake.
When we look at several paragraphs of the teachings that the master talks about focusing on the power of Buddha, it is very clear, because most of his talks are about the power of Buddha. "The Pure Land is devoted to the power of Buddhism. With the power of Buddhism, even though the karma is serious, if you have faith and wish, you will all be reborn." This is in the first chapter of the third series.
"Focus on Buddhism" Even though our sins are serious, if we have faith, we will all be reborn.As long as you have faith and wish, you can die. Isn’t it clear? Is there any question of self-reliance? Because why do you want to mention it? Because many people are confused here, then you just need to have a little bit of yourself The mentality of merit, then you are very dangerous, so here we must make it clear to everyone.
Let’s look at another paragraph: “The Pure Land Method has no kind of teachings. All sages, wisdom and stupidity, are subject to acceptance. All methods rely on their own power, and only this one method depends on the power of the Buddha. The power of the Buddha is independent, the sky is separated, the faith and wish are remembered, The Kingdom of the Buddha." This is in the "Part XNUMX of the sequel." "It's all Buddha power." You see so many... There are many such teachings in the notes.
In the last paragraph to summarize, this one is more interesting. He said: "Everyone should know what kind of strength one has for self-reliance practice? But karma since the beginning, so it is rare to be free from all kinds of disasters. With the great aspiration of Amitabha Buddha, Naturally, it will be done as soon as possible." This is in "Part Three".
You see that we want to rely on our own strength, what strength do we have? Yes... Karma since the beginning of the catastrophe, we are also strong! If we say that since he has two forces... Yes... Our own karma, only karma We are here to receive retribution... We only came to be reborn as human beings when we were drawn by karma. We came here as a last resort. After a long period of cultivation, it is impossible to obtain a pure mind, so there really isn't any power.Fortunately, there is the great aspiration of Amitabha Buddha, as long as we can believe it, we have a chance for liberation.This is a brief talk to everyone. It is about Master Yinguang teaching us the key to rebirth in the Pure Land. In fact, it is exactly the same as Master Shandao.As long as we can grasp it, this is completely trusted.
Because the condition of our death, the "three kinds of grains," has not been wrong with the ancestors of all dynasties, and they are all exactly the same.But what do you want to believe? Believe in Buddhism or in yourself? This is very...It is about whether you can build confidence and die.So in this part, the thirteen patriarchs and the patriarchs of the Jingzong are divided into three schools of thought: one is pure self-reliance, one is self-power with two powers, and the other is pure other power.
So we have to distinguish it clearly, so we know that the only thing that can be universally accepted is good diversion, good diversion of thought, and XNUMX% relying on other powers, then there is no problem.This is the practice of our true Pure Land Method, the others are not wrong but more difficult.Because sentient beings have many root natures, you directly ask them to cultivate this method, and he doesn’t believe it! The great virtue of the teacher had to use another method, because according to the root nature of different sentient beings, he said yes... that’s okay... you just follow you It’s okay to practice the method, and then go back to it.

(XNUMX) Directly recite all the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas of Amitabha
It is true that Amitabha is compassionate and does not abandon any sentient being. If we follow that difficult practice, we will not be able to die.Therefore, we must master the pure pure land cultivation method, the simplest, and because this method is to directly communicate with Amitabha Buddha, and sense Dao friendship, so we can fully absorb his merits, and it is very close.
Therefore, the retribution after death is also the most extraordinary, the method of practice is the simplest, but the retribution is the most extraordinary.What about this part... In fact, as long as we grasp this key point and have the right direction, Master Yinguang's notes, and the following four sentences about the Pure Land of Rebirth, we have actually finished learning.That’s the point... You will graduate if you can die... As long as you have confidence, the next step is to wait for your death.

Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva, Guanyin Bodhisattva, Medicine Master Buddha, all can be recited.Only Amitabha is the king of Buddhas, and he represents all Buddhas and Bodhisattvas.That’s why after you truly understand the merits of the Buddha's name, you will slowly be willing to recite the Buddha.
