XNUMX. Virtues in the "Guidelines for Buddhist Disciples"

XNUMX. Virtues in the "Guidelines for Buddhist Disciples"

The "Buddhist Guidelines for Disciples" is not just the basis for learning Buddhism, but a necessary virtue for all Buddhist practitioners. After attaining Buddhahood, the heart and conduct must always be inseparable from the virtues of the disciples, because it is the natural expression of the nature of the mind. Before we understand the nature of our minds and naturally reveal our inherent good qualities, we must first lead us to gradually enter into our own nature through the practice of things, so that we can become Buddhas in the future. If anyone does not possess the virtue of being a human disciple, it is impossible to become a Buddha.Knowing its importance, I wrote ten verses based on the teachings of the sutras, so that everyone can recite them more easily in their daily life. Many people have been studying in Buddhism for a long time, and they are familiar with various scriptures and teachings, but they are not able to benefit greatly from their practice. The problem is that the virtue of this discipline has not really been cultivated. If you want to break through this bottleneck , it is necessary to go back and make up for the homework of this xinxing virtue.

Generally speaking, the ethical and moral concepts of Chinese Buddhism and even traditional Chinese culture seem to be conservative and authoritative relative to the democratic autonomy of Western countries. The so-called polarization means that some people in Western countries behave very egoistically and take egoism as the center, thinking that this is freedom and democracy. In fact, the definition of freedom must be based on the premise of respecting everything in order to show freedom. Spirit, if you act willfully just for your own pleasure, regardless of the feelings and influences of the surrounding environment, then this is not called freedom, it is called selfish laissez-faire, and it is called lack of morality and lack of self-cultivation.Similarly, under the Eastern imperial patriarchy, if the people in the upper position do not establish the connotation of sincere respect and love for the people in the lower position, then the people in the lower position will not truly obey, and they also have the freedom of human nature. Therefore, no matter whether it is the tradition of the East or the opening of the West, it must be established under the connotative spirit of the natural law of "respect". This is the truth that truly conforms to human nature and corresponds to the truth. However, there is no regional difference in human feelings between east, west, north and south. This is a norm that all living beings in nature must abide by. Without this norm, everything will have a negative reaction and bring about evil consequences.

Therefore, no matter how people get along with each other, or even their relationship with nature, they must be based on mutual respect, not to mention the great event of seeking liberation from the samsara of life and death from good teachers. Inspired by true sincerity, how can there be a special karma? And the inner respect is implemented in behavior, which is obedience, obedience, single-mindedness, and no doubt. There is absolutely no dubiousness to the teacher's teaching, and it will never violate the yang and yin.Generally speaking, even if you treat your friends with honesty and loyalty, let alone a teacher who saves your own life, if you don't have such virtues, you will be disloyal, unfilial, unkind, and unrighteous.

And a saint like a Buddha, how does their respect for all living beings manifest? It is an indiscriminate acceptance of all sentient beings. No matter whether they are poor or rich, good or evil, respect him or not, he will tolerate you who are at the moment with an equal heart and a pure heart. The love revealed, because the Buddha respects that all sentient beings have Buddha-nature and can become a Buddha in the future. The current confusion is only a temporary karma. As long as the karma is eliminated, one can turn to the world and become a saint, so in the eyes of the Buddha, there is no such thing as All sentient beings are treated as Buddhas. The Buddha in the upper position has such respect for the sentient beings in the lower position. If the disciples of the younger generation cannot build on the virtues of the disciples’ rules, then such a relationship will never be able to obtain the inheritance of the Dharma, and will never be able to inspire the self-nature such as No matter what Dharma you study in the future, you will never be able to achieve such perfect virtues as the Buddha. Even if you learn any skills from your teachers and seniors in the world, you will not deviate from this principle of respect.

Establishing absolute trust and respect for the teacher is especially important in inspiring the self-nature. For example, in Zen Buddhism, the master will often give the disciple a good drink when he is unprepared. At this time, if the trust relationship between the teacher and the disciple is Good, the disciple can only directly accept the Master's drink at the moment, and there will never be any doubts or even unhappiness in the heart, so it is easy and smooth to follow the power of the Master's drink, and immediately enlighten into emptiness and become a Buddha. If you are not in this undefended situation, you will experience the state of emptiness without precaution, and even if you talk about the truth, it will be difficult for you to realize the emptiness that is inconceivable, incomprehensible, and out of words. From this, you can see how important it is for Buddhism to implement the virtues of discipleship, which is absolutely related to whether you can study the Fa or not.

I have been in Buddhism for nearly XNUMX years, and although I have experienced all kinds of trials and tribulations, my belief in and obedience to the Three Jewels has never stopped, because from the moment I came into contact with this study of life, which is different from the worldly law I can intuitively feel that there is really a big secret here, which is a treasure of truth that ordinary people cannot understand. Therefore, no matter what, we must overcome all difficulties and find answers from them until liberation. Facing the chaos in Buddhism, I will not have the slightest faith in the Three Jewels fundamentally shaken, because I always believe that the truth is always perfect, but sometimes it is temporarily contaminated by human factors. Now, as long as our faith is pure, we can meet the conditions of being a Fa-study disciple, and finally we can enter into the pure and pure truth and attain the perfect result of our practice.
