XNUMX. The unidentified novice

Incident XNUMX. The unidentified novice

After being forced to leave my permanent residence inexplicably, I was unfamiliar with Buddhism and Sangha. For a while, I didn’t know where to go. Because I have always had confidence in Buddhas and Bodhisattvas, and I also had confidence in myself, I could not have imagined that Buddhism was vast and monasteries were vast. Lin Li, there will be no place for me to settle down.Because at that time, I was a novice when I left the permanent residence for the second time. I didn’t even know that a novice who did not receive the great ordination was not qualified to participate in the jungle sangha. In other words, after leaving the permanent residence, I was the first The predicament I face is that there is no way to go. Generally, I am not qualified to live in a dojo that follows the Dharma. Unless someone introduces me and has a special fate, it is not like when I graduated from the training class as a layman. If a person who is already able to lecture on the sutras and spread the Dharma seeks another master to save his life, he must be welcomed by the masters of the monasteries everywhere to protect his thoughts. How can he make himself without a place to live? And I would encounter such a situation, which must have been predicted by Master Shaodu in advance. This is really a test question for a senior graduate student!

Fortunately, I used to have good relationships with people from time to time. Just when this predicament suddenly appeared, a senior from the mainland introduced me to the ancestral courtyard of the Buddhist precepts in Beijing, and I went there to live for three days. A few months ago, it happened that the head of the abbot turned out to be the person who had a good relationship with me when I was in Singapore in the past, so when we met each other, we felt very cordial. There is an ancestral monastery in Beijing where nuns and masters practice retreats. Usually, it rarely accepts people to place orders. As a result, not only did she place the order for me for three months, and I stayed until the endorsement expired, and during the period, she also greeted me with ceremonies. I ascended the throne at the Mahavira Hall to give lectures every week. Later, I took the initiative to achieve the great precepts. If I received the big precepts, I would be her disciple. She hoped that I would still be able to live in the temple to practice and develop my heart in the future, but I declined her kindness, and felt that the fate of master and apprentice is very important, and it is related to the life of my life and even the achievement of Taoism.

After leaving Beijing, through Hong Kong, I went to Lantau again to meetHolyunderMaster Yanlian, a disciple of an old master, stopped by Hong Kong to see her before I went back to Taiwan after I graduated from the training class. She has been kind enough to help me introduce her to her.HolyunderThere is an old master, this time to go to her again, I already have the intention to get close to the old master, and I plan to live in Baolin Temple to receive the training of jungle asceticism. When I went to Hong Kong, Guru Rinpoche escorted me to see the master who was recuperating in Chi Lin Nunnery, and that visit determined my relationship with Po Lin Monastery.Master is very merciful, like Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva, willing to take the blame for the suffering of all sentient beings. After I expressed my determination to come close to Master, his attendant asked me, "Do you want to come here to take the precepts or to ask for salvation again? ?” At the time, I didn’t understand the difference between the two, but I was still reluctant to give up the dharma karma of learning the Pure Land Dharma with Master Shi, and I was still very persistent in wanting to keep the “Master Master gave me face to face after graduating from the training class.” On the one hand, in the face of such an elder who has great mighty virtue and compassion, and whom I admire very much, there are all kinds of attachments in my heart that I can't express for a while, so I answer, "Look at what Master means. Alright." I left this question to the arrangement of Master and the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas.

So the master told me to go up the mountain to Baolin to place an order for the repair. At that time, I already knew that novice monks were not allowed to place orders in the jungle, so I nervously asked the waiter, in case I went there like this, the master wouldn't allow me What to do with the pending order? The waiter smiled and said it shouldn't be!As a result, as soon as I went up the mountain and arrived at the Baolin guest room, I asked to place the order. Master Zhike really did not place the order for me, and as soon as we met, it was like seeing an enemy from a previous life. He was very fierce to me. When I placed the order, I was in a hurry, and quickly showed that I was the one who asked me to place the order. When he heard it, he was even more fierce towards me, as if he mistakenly thought that I was trying to use the relationship of the master to pressure him, or decided not to hang up. , and told me with a skeptical attitude that if it was really Master who asked me to come, I would have to show him the proof, and also asked me to hand over the letter of introduction from Master Shadu, proving that Master Shadu agreed to come out to study. Only those who are willing to place orders, because this is the rule of the jungle.

Omg!This was simply an impossible problem for me, and my mood suddenly hit rock bottom. At that time, even Master Yan Lian, who was accompanying me, began to worry for me, so I suggested that it would be better to go to Chi Lin Nunnery to ask Master for instructions. How should I deal with it? On the one hand, I had to do my best to call Master Shaodu and ask for a letter of consent, but of course I was directly rejected by the brothers who answered the call at the counter. So I had to go back to Chi Lin Nunnery again to ask Master Shengyi for instructions. After listening to the Master, he signed a letter of recommendation that I had written beforehand without saying a word, and asked me to take it to Master Zhike. The identity of the old monk Xuyun placed an order in the traditional Zen jungle under the wind of the old monk, through the abbot in office.HolyunderAn old monk signed the autograph and recommended it before placing the order. After Master Zhike saw this letter of recommendation, he gave me a stern look before reluctantly gave me an order. At this time, my nervousness relaxed a little, and I finally had a place to rest for the time being.A few years later, I heard that this Master Zhike died of cancer shortly after taking over as abbot and deacon. He was still very young when he passed away.

No matter how thrilling the situation was, the order was finally placed successfully, and then the living room arranged to live with dozens of resident nuns in a large dormitory that looked like a morgue from a distance. Before going up the mountain, Master Shengyi once instructed me in person: "Good things come with hardships, and everything is low-key." At the time, I couldn't understand this sentence, and I didn't know how to keep a low profile, so I planned to ask three questions, so when These resident bhikkhuni masters usually ask me where I came from and who is the master... I couldn't answer directly, so one day I was finally taken advantage of the opportunity to repair. At that time, I just went downstairs to get something, the bed I didn't turn off the headlight for two minutes, and then a teacher, who was always repairing the niche, stood by my bed, pointed at my nose, and scolded me in Cantonese for nearly half an hour (fortunately, I didn't understand most of them. ), none of the more than a dozen masters who were watching around my bed dared to speak out. When she pressed me, "You can tell me now, where did you come from?" We were deadlocked for a long time. In the end, the tears that had been swirling in my eyes for a long time could not help falling down because they were too full, and for a while, my arrogant and reserved self-esteem also collapsed. When I was at the end of the situation, an incomparable power suddenly arose in my heart, and I understood that that power came entirely from the blessings of the Holy One Master, because what emerged in my heart at that time was the Holy One Master’s support for him. With my compassionate and reluctant eyes, I constantly encouraged myself to endure, to endure, and absolutely not to cause trouble to Master. If I can't handle it properly at this moment and make trouble in the living room, I will definitely Those who have been relocated will not only have nowhere to go, but will also betray Master's heart for saving me.

From that moment on, I felt for the first time that I could be so mature, so responsible, for myself and more importantly, to cherish Master's protective mind, that I could endure such a rare encounter in ordinary people's life. She was so embarrassed to ask her, and at that time, she was still very respectful, calm and firm, with tears in her eyes, and answered her word by word, "Master, please don't ask me any more, even if you ask me again, you will be fine. I don’t know how to speak, but even if I don’t speak, it doesn’t mean that I am a person of unknown origin, and you will understand one day in the future.” After she heard my firm and rational reply that I didn’t intend to fight , she also softened and stopped asking questions. The next day, she invited me (a minority) to eat for the first time in history (probably thought I was a bit stubborn), and I unknowingly did not realize the real meritorious power. At that time, it began to grow and sprout a little, and I am really grateful for this scene to achieve my true merits.

From this incident, I mainly want to remind those who have learned to become a monk or those who have made up their minds to become monks. Once they become monks with good intentions, they should live in a permanent residence as honestly as possible, and don’t think about participating in studies everywhere, unless it is a last resort. , otherwise you will face many powerful tests like me. Although there are opportunities to achieve merit in adversity, most people will die in adversity and lose their minds. Therefore, when the Buddha made the precepts, during the period of the small novice, novice, and shichāni, they had to stay in the lodgings. After receiving the big precept, the monks had to study the precepts for five years, and the monks studied the precepts for six years before they could specialize in scriptures and teachings. And before and after this, you have to stay in the permanent residence for more than ten years at least, and go out to study if necessary. Unless there is another life-saving dharma, you will follow the conditions to promote all parties. Don't go around to study just for your own imagination. In fact, no matter where you go to any Buddhist monastery that follows the Dharma, it is the same, with the same rules, the same standards of practice, and as a disciple, you have the same duty to perform, and there will be no big difference wherever you go. The only difference is in how far one can do it, so instead of wandering around, wasting time and energy, and having to be a second-class citizen and a resident (guest) monk, it is better to be honest One's own shaving is always in the nest and takes root steadily. As the saying goes, if you stand under the stage for a long time, it will be yours. If you stay in one place for a long time, you will have roots, and this root will generate the power of precept and concentration. The Buddha-nature Prajna wisdom, there is no need to seek it out.No matter how good other dojos are, and no matter how high the master’s realm is, it will not be better than the karma that suits you, nor will it be higher than your inherent Buddha nature. The third study is to cultivate the cause honestly, and I believe that everyone can achieve real merit and avoid many strong obstacles of retreating from the path.Because of my karma, I can’t be the master myself. Maybe it’s also a deliberate arrangement of Buddhas and Bodhisattvas. If I can make a new choice, I can be the master. First of all, I must first carefully choose a resident with a good fate, and a monk and nun who can be respectful and trustworthy. I will not be confused anymore. Be an airborne unit, and will follow the rules of the Sangha honestly and step by step, from Jingren, novice, Shichani, and bhikshuni, to experience each stage of learning attentively, take root in a dojo honestly, and wait until Once you have completed your studies, you can then transform the ten directions according to the predestined relationship. This is the Dharma-like and stable mode of renunciation.
