XNUMX. The characteristics and conditions of monkhood

XNUMX. The characteristics and conditions of monkhood
To become a monk is what a man should do, and it is not something that the generals of the world can do.Why is it that the generals in the world can go into battle to kill the enemy, while the prime minister is worth less than one person and more than ten thousand people, but is not comparable to the ability of monks and cultivators?Because the practice of monkhood is to be content with less desires, and to go against the worldly people's habit of pursuing external material and five desires, so often the more successful people in the world, their attachments to the world will be relatively more polluted. Therefore, it is more difficult to adapt to the life of monkhood. In addition, the real purpose of monkhood and practice is to save life and death. If a saint is truly free from life and death, he is not afraid of death. He is not afraid of everything. With such characteristics, at least they can have the courage to pay attention to the matter of life and death. Therefore, it is not for everyone to become a monk.In reality, there are many people who do not dare or are unwilling to truly face death before dying, let alone find a way to control their own life and death. There is nowhere to escape before impermanence is present, so there is no choice but to stop breathing in extreme panic. The stiffness of the body after death is a clear proof of panic. People who die in this situation are usually reborn in the three evil realms. Therefore, the concept of ordinary people It is not unreasonable to think that people die as ghosts. The ghost realm is one of the three evil realms, and the surrounding magnetic field will also appear gloomy in the process of the deceased's rebirth. But if a saint who is freed from life and death, or someone who is received by a Buddha on his deathbed, rejoices in his heart, has no fear and dies, his whole body is soft, his face is peaceful, and the surrounding magnetic field is peaceful. Being reborn in a Buddha country, there is no gloomy and terrifying atmosphere at all during the whole process, and there are Buddhas and Bodhisattvas’ blessings shining everywhere around.

So what are the qualifications that must be met to become a monk?First of all, one must have the determination to get rid of life and death in order to become a monk. Therefore, one must give up one’s love and leave one’s relatives, abandon the five desires, and devote one’s heart to the Tao. Only then can the practice be successful. If these basic conditions are not met, then it is not suitable to become a monk.In addition, one must endure hardship and practice to become a monk, and also learn to hold stricter precepts. Therefore, it is not suitable for people who are too old to become a monk. After leaving home, if you can’t cultivate the Dharma, you won’t be able to accomplish your karma, you will receive offerings from the ten directions in vain, and you will have to wear hair and horns to return in the next life. It would be better to protect the Three Jewels at home, cultivate blessings, and eliminate karmic obstacles. You can make a vow first, and then become a monk when the conditions and karma are met in the next life. Only in this way can you achieve success in monkhood.

There are two kinds of monks and monks, the childish monk and the halfway monk.A childish monk is less prone to worldly habits, and although it is inevitable that they will have the five desires from previous lives, but the current five desires are less predisposed to them, and they are less likely to become active when they are practicing, and it is easier to concentrate on renunciation of desires. To work hard on the Tao, save the need to clear the habit of social contamination first.Compared with those who become ordained halfway through the process, the habit of being attached to the five desires is heavier. Therefore, if one has been married and has experienced the realm of the five desires, he has to let go of the world and become a monk, and then go back and fight against the five desires again. This practice is even more difficult. high. However, there are also different advantages and disadvantages. It is easier to practice in the aspect of things and to become a monk, while a half-way monk has experienced all kinds of worldly tempering, so it is easier to use the effort in the mind. The World-Honored One is the manifestation of the half-way monk. The term half-way monk is a derogatory term in China. It refers to being married and having a sexual relationship between a man and a woman before becoming a monk and practicing. It seems that the body is not so pure. It is not appropriate to look at them separately.Because a person is not pure and pure is not just judged by appearances. Some people behave very well, but their hearts are very dirty. This situation is not difficult to understand. If you want to say pure, that child is the purest in body and mind, but this does not mean that his cultivation realm is high.In Buddhism, the highest truth is that purity is indistinguishable from filth, and purity must be extracted from filth in order to be pure. , the realm may only be at the basic level, so childlike monks and half-way monks have their own characteristics, and there is no absolute superiority or inferiority. They should be treated with an equal and respectful heart. However, if you have a family and you have divorced or become a monk, you must first obtain the understanding of your family, so that it is more appropriate to practice as a monk. Leave it alone, such a person can take on greater responsibilities after speaking out, and can give selfless care to unfamiliar and vast beings. This is not very logical, unless there is a special karma, or If the other party takes the initiative to raise the issue, then it will not interfere with the question of Taoism and responsibility. Otherwise, I will usually persuade such people to settle down as a home and honestly be a practitioner at home. First, do your best at the moment. If you cultivate more good roots and merits, you can still achieve the merits of self-benefiting practice. As for whether or not you will become a monk and benefit others in the future, leave it to the Buddha or Bodhisattva to arrange for you. After being influenced, it would be ideal to let them take the initiative to make you a monk and support you in your practice.

If you really want to practice, if you can have the karma to become a monk, that is the greatest blessing, because living in the sangha is blessed by the great power of the Three Jewels, and you will not be degraded too deeply in Taoism. No matter how high the achievement of each karma is, it is also linked to the karma of the five desires in the world, and it will eventually degenerate. After all, the mortal world is not a place for ordinary people to stay for a long time. Only Buddhas and Bodhisattvas are qualified to play supernatural powers in it without being trapped by karma. Only those who have really worked hard to cultivate can realize that the karma of sentient beings in the scriptures is incredible. With our ordinary people's weak willpower and strong habits of the five desires, it is basically impossible to achieve pure karma in the world that is seduced everywhere. Therefore, I have never regretted the path of becoming a monk, and I am more and more determined and happy. The admiration and admiration for the Three Treasures has also increased. Whenever I see the content of a "Praise of the Monk", it always shocks and moves me, as if I wrote my admiration for the Three Treasures. I hope that I will live forever All can be as solemn as written in this lyric, using the Dharma to solemnize oneself and all sentient beings in the ten directions. Here I also share with you the lyrics of this "Zan Monk Song". "A compassionate heart, a solemn appearance, a dignified demeanor, like the radiant language of a golden mountain, like a lotus flower spitting out incense, exuding a pure will, what kind of admiration it is The nectar of the dew relieves the suffering of the world, what an admiration it is."
