Retreat

Since the consummation of the summer at Po Lin Xi Temple in Hong Kong last September, he returned to Taiwan and immediately began to retreat homework.Counting the days, it has been seven or eight months.In the past few days, because I felt a little bit special about studying, I thought of the Dharma destiny with fellow practitioners in Taiwan in the past few years, and especially wanted to write down these Dharma benefits to share with everyone.So I diverted a little bit of head-knocking (the prostration) time to write.

Generally speaking, fellow practitioners are very mysterious and unfamiliar with the so-called retreat. In the past, there was a saying: retreat is necessary for people after enlightenment, because the cause of the Dharma is not sufficient, so they go to set up a hut to keep their skills and treat others. God, please turn to Falun.But in Buddhism there is also a variety of retreat causes, such as Huayan Pass, Pure Land Pass, Reading Pass, etc., which are determined by the practice.There are also Buddhism Samadhi Pass, Dharma-Hua Samadhi Pass, etc. depending on the realm and goal.Or like the Tibetan tantric practice, they pay more attention to the diligent practice of the practice. Some are very young and small, they are arranged by the master to retreat in the cave, and the entrance of the cave is very small. The food is only hoisted in by ropes, and it has been retired until accomplishment or even dying in it for a period of time. This is the so-called closed life and death pass.And the retreat of our generation, because the physical and mental roots are relatively poor, generally short-term retreat is the general mode, that is, the learning goal is set first, and the more common mode is to complete a stage of intensive courses.But now it is very difficult just to achieve this kind of cause and condition.

The first is the difficulty of the objective environment, and the second is the problem of the practitioner's own physical and mental karma, both of which are the reasons why the retreat merits are difficult to complete.Taking the cause of the scholar's retreat this time, it is not easy to get it.Originally when I returned to Taiwan last year, I was fortunate that some fellow initiates immediately took the initiative to find a hut to protect the students, but because the environment was not suitable, the neighbors would come to visit and ask for enlightenment curiously, so this pass It can only be used as a retreat, and it is over after only three months.Later, I accidentally participated in a Buddhist seven in a temple in Nantou. The seventh monk was very compassionate. After Zhan Zhuan learned that I was planning to find a closed room in the monastery, he immediately took the initiative to protect it, so I was extremely grateful. I went to live for a month first.Later observations found that although all the external conditions of support were exceptional, the scholars felt that they did not fit well with the practice philosophy and style of the abbot of the dojo. At this time, if one accepted the support hastily and received the grace of dripping water, how could it be possible in the future? If you don't report, won't you have to ride a tiger by then?So after several considerations, this cause was declined.Fortunately, on the day when I started this idea, there was another wonderful development, which contributed to my present pure and exceptional cause. I have been in retreat for several months now, and I have been very smooth and happy in my studies. .Therefore, although there have been many twists and turns in this whole process, it has finally proved once again the compassionate guardianship of Buddhas and Bodhisattvas.At the same time, it also makes the scholars more convinced that although in the end of the Dharma period, there is a rare dojo that is like the Dharma, as long as we can stick to our own principles of learning, we should not be like ordinary people, just bend for five buckets of rice, and easily Go against your own principles; not to mention having to cling to those who are rich and powerful, as if only in this way can there be opportunities for spiritual achievement.In fact, based on many years of personal experience, I truly believe that as long as we are sincere and willing to practice, the XNUMX years of Buddha's retribution left by the Blessed One will definitely be enough for our four disciples to practice life after life, not to mention. There are countless dragons and gods who protect them from time to time, so there is no need to worry about all their needs.Besides, this is also what the Blessed One said in the Chrysostom of the Sutra. Haven't we even believed in the Buddhist language?Moreover, life is like illusion, life and death are nothing, practice to the ultimate point, but to see through this point, and to really break through the habit of fear of life and death, so when faced with all kinds of illusionary difficulties in the world, what is there? What are you afraid of?Not only do you have to be afraid of it, but you need to be able to see that it is a good time to achieve merit. Adversity will become a great opportunity for spiritual growth, and it will be easier to achieve incredible merit.So why should a practitioner resign to the worldly style that is inferior to the law or greedy for small gains, and lose his rare opportunity for liberation because of small losses?Therefore, I also encourage fellow practitioners to cherish time, grasp the principles of practice, fear all difficulties, and devote themselves to practicing on the right path.

There is another very important factor to achieve the merits of retreat, that is, the problem of personal physical and mental karma. In the past, because scholars would have some short-term retreat training every year, it took about three days after entering the retreat. Completely settle down on the progress of the practice and work hard.However, people with weak foundations, on the contrary, will start to be irritable and disturbed in about three days. This starts to produce various physical and psychological disorders. In the end, some people even break through the barriers even if they can't bear it. There are many people who are struggling to achieve success or seeking supernatural powers to induce them. In the end, there are many people who are obsessed with it unknowingly.Therefore, I also suggest that fellow initiates should start with the one or three-day barrier to adjust their body and mind when they have a chance. They have a right view and be prepared. When they have the chance to work hard in the future, they will be able to achieve their merits and virtues.

For short-term retreats, you must first schedule the whole day's work and rest schedule. It is best to get up before three or four in the morning, so that you can overcome sleep problems and increase your hard work.After waking up, you can sit on the bed and meditate directly. It is best to practice double-disc at the same time. Even if you can only sit for a minute or two, you can gradually increase it for a longer time, so that your body will sweat first, and your blood will get through. , The sleep disorder was overcome immediately, and sitting still in the early morning is particularly easy to experience silence.

Secondly, the arrangement of courses is also very important. When you first enter the customs, you must first take the elimination of karma as the main purpose.For example, worshipping confession, worshiping Buddha, etc., and must pay equal attention to the interpretation of the practice, and coordinate with each other, and then when you enter the stage of the right practice, you can concentrate on the main practice.If your goal is to enlighten the Buddha and Samadhi, then you must really achieve a Buddha's name in the middle of two or six o'clock, and be indifferent to everything, like a walking dead, with only one Buddha's name in your heart. If you can really do this kind of specialization and hard work in other unraveling tasks, then you can, as the scripture says, if one day is as long as seven days, you will be able to achieve the samādhi merits.When most people practice the seventh Buddha, they just don’t have the effort to eliminate karma. Therefore, during the whole Buddha seventh period, the delusion just rests a little bit, and the seventh Buddha is about to end. Some people are even shallow. You can't taste the shallow Dharma taste. This is the reason you can't work hard if you don't master the correct methods and stages in your practice.

Let's talk about the course of the scholar's retreat. The scholar's goal of learning is to pay equal attention to practice in the first half of the stage, and in the final stage, he will try his best to reach the top of the Buddhist kung fu.At present, the scholars are closing the Fahua Pass. They mainly read the Fahua Sutra and worship the Fahua Repentance. Secondly, they have arranged a little time to understand the scriptures according to Gude’s commentary and prepare to leave the pass. Later, the opportunity also led the fellow initiates to read the entire Lotus Sutra. The Lotus Sutra, because it is the king of the sutras of the world of sutras, and its content reveals the knowledge and views of the pure one Buddha, as far as the Tiantai family judgement is concerned, it belongs to the pure circle and no miscellaneous multiplying reality, and its realm is completely written in language. It is inconceivable. Therefore, we can only study in ordinary people through the in-depth study of the interpretation of the scriptures and the structure of the scientific judgment, plus the reference to the experience of the Goods after the experience, so that we can learn in the long-term. In the process, it is possible to grasp some general ideas a little bit.However, if you want to truly be able to get into the Dharma and Hua Samadhi, you must rely on long-term and continuous reading of the scriptures, worship of Dharma and Hua confession, and various practical practices in life, so that you can gradually get into the knowledge and views of the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas.For our fellow practitioners who specialize in the Pure Land Method, the realm of the Lotus Sutra can help us to resurrect in the future, see the Buddha immediately in bloom, prove the immortality and forbearance, and now we can feel the Buddha Shakyamuni, the Buddha and the ten. The incredible and obvious blessings of the Buddhas of Fang make us more effective in accumulating the daily merits of various blessings and wisdoms.This is really a great remedy for our practice conditions that are hard to come by as a mentor today.Especially when the scholars read about Anle Xingshi, they deeply feel in their hearts that Blessed One Shakya is giving instructions to the scholars like a mentor, and teaches us how disciples who enter the room should practice and pay attention to those things, who, Where should we avoid contact..., the various instructs and the methods of instructing, usually only very close relatives and monks will directly say, for example, in the scriptures, the Blessed One even asks us to promote and sustain Even the Hinayana people should not be too close at ordinary times, so as not to be affected by them. The standard measure of direct warning and guarding like this makes the scholars feel that there is always a mentor guarding him like a father.For all blessings like this, there are many more...

Since the beginning of the study of Buddhism, scholars have been specializing in the Pure Land Dharma, and have accepted the theory of the Pure Land Five Scriptures.
